Year Course focused on Addiction

Addiction generally has a devastating effect. The addict is controlled by forces on the subconscious as well as automatic brain mechanisms, and therefore they are almost unable to exercise any meaningful choice of freedom. The debilitating effect in most cases already begins during early childhood, and therefore the life story of the person concerned appears to be of critical importance in terms of eventual healing. They are, as it were, trapped in a psychological prison from which they cannot break free. Furthermore, it is indeed also a spiritual prison, and in this respect the pastoral component plays an important role as part of a multidisciplinary approach. This course attempts to expand these perspectives more widely, and especially to provide pastoral counsellors with the necessary equipment to be able to make a real difference in the lives of those who are struggling with the devastating impact of addiction.
